Amazing how fast a year can fly by

A year ago I went back to a job I hated, so I could leave a job I hated even more. Now I'm sitting at the desk of a job that I absolutely love. God is good.

One of those things

It's one of those things
You let it go for so long because you are comfortable
Or you are afraid of change
And you can't pay the cost.

You're worry how you'll change
And how others may perceive you differently
But then you dream of the beauty and new outlook that is waiting
You can live without the comfort
But what if it's something you truly regret doing
And then have to wait months to regrow and regain lost confidence

Can you handle the upkeep?
And that everyone will know?
Or will you take the step, and start anew?

New hair cuts are like a lot of other things.

Words of wisdom ... from Lady Gaga

"Some women choose to follow men, and some women choose to follow their dreams. If you’re wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn’t love you anymore."

Yeah that's right. I haven't posted in forever... and I post a quote from LG. I'm just full of surprises.

There's love in every letter written

Today is very busy but I wanted to share this lovely picture I came across. I love typewriters, mostly for the clickity clack sounds they make when your fingers fly across the keys. My grandmother and I were pen pals when I was young and all of her letters were written on a typewriter. And isn't it funny to think this little treasure will be as outdated as a rotary phone to my children someday.

So This is the New Year

Rather than resorting to a resounding theme I decided to make a more specific list of exactly what I want to accomplish in 2010. It's still January so don't worry it's not too late.

20 Things to Do in 2K10

Be Smart
  1. Continue to do well in school and graduate in May while stressing as little as possible
  2. Become a seasoned bargain hunter in order to feed my need to shop. No full price paying here.
  3. Manage my money for the next 3 months as best as possible.
    Be Connected
    1. Meet and connect with as many professionals and interns as possible. I'm shameless when it comes to social networking.
    2. Remain in touch with my piers in school and stay as involved as possible even though I will live 3 states away.
    3. Call friends and family - they're the ones who keep you sane after all.
      Be Adventurous
      1. Run at least 3 races (I ran two last year).
      2. Summer road trip with friends - I'm thinking Florida Keys.
      3. Explore Atlanta to the fullest.
        Be Loving
        1. Take more chances
        2. Listen more, talk less. I suppose there is a reason you have two ears and one mouth.
        3. Be patient, and realize not everything happens when you want it to.

My Resolution on New Year's Resolutions

I've recently come to the conclusion that New Year's is my favorite holiday and I mean what could be better? Champagne, sparkle, glitz, friends, midnight kisses, and absolutely no pressure like Christmas. Not to mention it's a yearly continuation of my birthday festivities but that's just an added bonus. It's a whole new year to do whatever you want and let's face it we could all benefit from some self reinvention from time to time. However, there's one thing I don't like and I've decided I'm no longer partaking in with this holiday.

        Resolutions
Everyone makes them. Heck, most people have already broken theirs by now. Whether it's to lose weight (the most common), get out of debt, or get over your ex once and for- all they don't work. I find them pointless because frankly making a promise to yourself simply because of the start of a new year doesn't actually serve you. They are historically prone to fail and then you end up beating yourself up about it. Um, no thanks.

So instead of making and subsequently breaking a resolution I've taken the lead from one of my favorite blogs Stratejoy and decided to create a guiding theme to set the tone for 2010. What's the difference between a resolution and a theme? A theme will help you set an overall mood for the year with a bigger purpose that is more self-reflective. What do you want to conquer and what are you going to do to make this year different?A resolution is one goal, with one result thus making it a 50/50 shot that you will succeed or fail.

Since reading the Stratejoy blog entry I've pondered over what feel I want this year to have. It's already starting out with quite the bang but I really don't want it to stop there. I want to make this a good one so I plan to let this marinate. What do you want out of 2010?

Six pairs of kicks is my definition of 12 Steps

Caution this post is downright shallow but aren't most guilty pleasures?
So the first step is admitting you have a problem right? Or so I hear. Well here's mine and I realize it sounds typical of most females however it has to be said.

I am in love completely obsessed with SHOES

It doesn't matter how broke I am or how much my life necessitates budgeting at this moment I just can't help myself. Now I am smart enough to mostly buy them on sale from places like Ross (where I spend many lunch breaks) and Overstock.com. But still, I need to get it together. It's just that good shoes make an outfit and you can plan an entire look simply around them. And to quote the movie (and book)  In Her Shoes:

"When I feel bad I like to treat myself. Clothes never look any good... food just makes me fatter... shoes always fit. "

And that right there is why every (almost every) woman in America loves shoes. So I know I'm not alone in my never-ending quest for shoes. I can't get enough of them. So I must admit today I will be purchasing these beauties who I have long searched for:

I promise, tomorrow I will be better.

        2 Weeks...and Counting.

Exactly 2 weeks from today will be the start of my internship with CNN and my status as a temporary Atlanta resident. Can you say ridiculously excited? Yes, I've already come to terms with the fact the I won't be sleeping a wink the night before.

Before I was nervous but now I've moved into the so ready to move on, try this out, change the world phase of this emotional coaster (which of course shows no signs of stopping). I'm doing my best to get my life together ( i.e. doing taxes, taking care of my car, etc.) and spending time with people before I leave because let's face it even though I will be back sporadically I won't have any time for my usual antics.

So on that note I would like to recommend a fabulous book I am reading while I have the time to read. It's for all of you commitment phoebes like myself who are smart enough to be terrified of marriage and all its woes.  Plus it's by the author Elizabeth Gilbert of Eat Pray Love, who I find very inspiring.

Within one day of purchasing this little gem I am 75% done which has to be a new record for me the official "unfinisher" of books. So step to it- it offers a lot of fascinating information. For instance did you know that individuals who are under the age of 25 when they marry are 2 to 3x more likely to divorce? And the number of children (less is more) plus your years of education further deplete these chances. Interesting info I must say. While of course this is just research dug up by the author and not the official determiner of destiny, it's held my attention which is something quite remarkable.

        New Digs

On the mile-long list of things to tackle before my big move to ATL was finding a place to live. And thanks to my wonderful mother and a friend of hers I am happy to say I will not be living in a box downtown, but a lovely mother-in-law suite in a wonderful neighborhood called Brookhaven. I will be living with a fabulous couple named Jerry and Rich in their cozy abode. See pictures below:

I will reside bottom level of their home which is in walking distance from the Marta- the metro in Atlanta. I really love the backyard and there's also a Starbucks and shopping center near by. And I am going to have to drag my butt out of bed so freaking early that in itself will be an accomplishment! I can't tell you the last time I saw 5 am but pretty soon we're going to be best buddies, or loathed enemies is probably more like it.

I'm really getting excited and can't wait to explore a whole new place! I can't believe I'm turning into such a big girl these days but I guess it's about time. And I plan to provide plenty more photos to ogle.

        It's not about the destination

So, my prior thinking was I wouldn't start this until I actually got to ATL but I figured hey I'm already on the journey - trying to get my life together to put everything else on hold for 3 months while I pursue the opportunity of a lifetime. And what is that you ask? Well that would be interning with CNN.

Cliche sayings like dreams really do come true and things of that nature could not begin to describe what this means to me. Whenever Logan has asked what do you want to do? Where could you work if you worked anywhere? I've responded with those 3 magical letters (disclaimer: I am a shameless news junkie and hardly anything in this world makes me more giddy). So needless to say, this is BIG. I can't wait to work for someone who I'm not smarter than, and to be around inspiring people every day instead of those who feel they are wasting their youth away at a desk

This blog will serve as a memoir if you will, of how the next 3 months will change not only my life but undoubtedly me. I don't think it's going to be sunshine and rainbows, but I know it's going to be worth it.

But for now let's just say I'm anxious to get this party started and begin a new chapter.
